A JOURNEY IN MUSIC

par sghodbane

For this new lesson, we have first defined the word "journey" and we have concluded that it isn’t merely a physical voyage from one location to another but a complex interplay of emotions, discoveries and reflections that can leave a deep and enduring impact on the traveler. Indeed, the concept of journey extends beyond geographical boundaries and often encompasses cultural, intellectual, emotional and spiritual dimensions. We have also considered the reasons and the goals of the journey in human experience.

After having defined this word, we have studied the concept of the "American dream" with a short drama film about the first immigrants who emigrated to the United States through Ellis Island. The video showed the portraits of European immigrants as they were represented by JR, a famous French artist, nicknamed "the French Banksy". Through his portraits, he wanted to make us
see those we have made invisible, the poor, the marginalised and the forgotten. Then, we discovered Annie Moore, an icon for every immigrant that has entered America through Ellis
Island and we have analyzed the song written in tribute to this young Irish immigrant.

We ended our lesson with the study of two songs which evoke two different dimensions of the concept of "journey" and we eventually achieved our challenging final project, namely writing a song about a journey either physical, emotional or spiritual.

We hope you will appreciate our original songs and enjoy traveling with us in the worlds we have chosen to explore.
